Broken Steel is well…Broken

Steel thats Broken

I guess you can Break Steel after all.

According to multiple reports, the PC version of Fallout 3 DLC Broken Steel isn’t working as it should.

The download throws up the error during installation:

“Not a cryptographic message or the cryptographic message is not formatted correctly. (Exception from HRESULT: 0×8009200D)”

There also appears to be a difference between the reported file-size (510Mb) and the file you actually download (471.6Mb).

Bethesda are also aware of the problem as one of the developers wrote on there forums:

Also Ill just say it here. We are looking into it. Sorry for the inconvenience for all the fans and players out there.

Note I am even getting the same issue :\

The last DLC that got released, The Pitt, also suffered errors on the Xbox 360. I guess they worked harder to make sure the 360 version worked correctly but forgot about the PC this time.

-UPDATE 1-: Broken Steel has been removed from the PC Marketplace whilst Bethesda look into the issue.

-UPDATE 2-: Looks like the PC version is the only one having Issues, The 360 Achievements don’t add to GamerScore, Microsoft are sorting the issue.

-UPDATE 3-: Broken Steel’s PC installation issues are “a games for Windows Live DRM Install error”, a Bethesda representative said. “Microsoft is working on fixing it, and we’ll let everyone know once we’ve verified it.”

Regarding the Xbox 360 achievement anomalies, “The Xbox Live servers don’t seem to be fully synched yet with the additional achievements. This should fix itself automatically soon. People won’t lose any achievements.”

I’ll update more as this unfolds.

Fallout 3: Broken Steel DLC Preview

May 4, 2009

BrokenSteel

You can “break” steel?

Fallout 3’s third DLC, Broken Steel, is coming to Xbox LIVE and Games for Windows LIVE tomorrow. As with the previous DLCs, Broken Steel will cost 800 Microsoft Points.

The new DLC includes a lot of new features, like raising the level cap to 30 and adding 6 new achievements worth 150Gs

WARNING:  If you haven’t finished/played Fallout 3, you may come across spoiler material in the following text and trailer. You Have Been Warned!

Last Chance to stop looking!

The end is no longer neigh!?

The biggest change of all is that the game no longer ends.

The main quest in Fallout 3 ends with the player making a few important decisions on the future of the region’s water supply. It also sometimes could end with the player’s death. This time around, whoever goes into the reactor won’t die. What’s more, you can even send in one of your three followers that is possible to have with you at that time. You awaken after a sucessful engagement of the reactor, which gives fresh water all across D.C.

Bethesda haven’t released all the details until the DLC goes live tomorrow, where you’ll have to play it yourself to find out what happens. What we do know however is that the DLC has Higher level Mutants and new Power Armour to go find amongst other things. There’s also a huge assault quest with the Enclave and the world around you has now changed due to all the fresh water all around D.C.

People will be filling up buckets of water to take back to settlements and you can help escort them and defend them from Bandits and they’ll probably give you some caps for it too.

There’s a bunch of new quests to do, and now that you can continue to play on from the ending you can go back to quests you may have missed (providing you haven’t killed any of the quest givers).

Fallout 3: Broken Steel Downloadable Content out tomorrow for 800 Microsoft Points.
